Idk if this is against forum rules. So if it is, please forgive me. Otherwise, to the question(s).

I heard that you can root an nvidia shield tablet with an app called towelroot. What idk is if it is safe as in won't brick the tablet, won't break any features the tablet is supposed to do, and if it will block ota updates from nvidia.

I REALLY want to root my tablet. But am worried about bricking it, and breaking the software.

Thanks for any help!!!!

I have a Shield tablet and rooted it with towel root, worked as I expected. In case you want to know, the Xposed framework worked for me without any problems.

Thanks for the fast response. just a couple questions if you don't mind.

Can you still get nvidia ota updates? Also, do I have to have xposed framework?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Sorry for the late answer,

I don't know about updates as I didn't need to update since I have it, check on google. You dont need the xposed framework, but if you want to customize android, check it out and google for more info about how it works. If you have more questions, feel free to ask :)

When I first got my shield tablet, I rooted it using towel root and it works as expected. I have since recieved notifications of OTA updates from Nvidia and have installed them without issue so from my experience it works fine.

Thanks for the response and offer. Here are some more questions I had.

Do you use SuperSu from the play store? If so, can it actually fully unroot the tablet? Also, for the ota updates you got. Did you get the ota 1.1 update then root? Then, when rooting with towelroot. Do you have to restart the tablet after pressing "make it rain"? Lastly (for now) none of this stuff has actually bricked the tablet with the 1.1 update yet?

Thanks again for the help!!!!

I didn't need to reboot, I don't know about ota updates, neither about full unroot and I use SuperSu from play store
