Good animating program for free?

Hi, my brother is starting his new app with my help, and he needs an animation program, he needs it for mac, he needs it free and that is about it. Thanks!

2D or 3D?

I like to use Blender for 3D animation, but it requires a lot of learning to become good at it(Blender makes some things hard for no reason, but once you learn it its not too bad).

Unity. Pretty much any animating software is going to be hard to learn. Unity is used in a great load of indie games so you know it's good.

Also it's an entire game engine not specifically animation software

Unity for games, Blender for animation/film.

Idon't think they are any decent free one's, i use After Effects if you want some 2D or 2.5D looks download a trial and see. 3D wise there is Blender but the learning curve is steep.
