if it's booting properly, by which you mean by you can see the desktop via a secondary monitor while it's a bloank sceen on the actual laptop, issue might be a loosened connection to the display from the mobo, you need to check with a local repair shop in that case, you can do it yourself but it's a heck of a mess once you open up a laptop..

Details separate people.

blank laptop screen on bootup. Need suggestions

Black screen on laptop boot can be a few things

Static buildup

- Remove the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds.

- Plug in JUST the AC power and attempt to turn it on

Screen backlight inverter is out

- Tilt the screen, can you see anything faded in the background?

Screens bad

- Hook it up to an external display and see if you get video

Bad ram

- Can cause no video, remove 1 stick if theres 2

Bad mobo

- This happens a lot. Mainly if none of the things above happen, the board or cpu has failed.

The fact you just re-applied Thermal paste suggests you just disassembled the complete Laptop, which includes disconnecting the display cable from the board going to the LCD panel, open it back up and check you seated it correctly, quite a fat cable normally covered in more of a cloth, largish flat and white connector on board needs  a re-assuring click to ensure engagement.
