how many watts do I need?

Go to solution Solved by tobben,

850 watt should be plenty sufficient, could get lower, but it's nice to have some headroom right?

How many watts do I need for this system?

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K (Might be upgrading to 4790K, unlikely though)

GPUs: 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (or 980Ti IF it comes out...?) in 2 way SLI

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 2 x 4GB

Storage: Samsung 840 EVo 250GB + Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 500GB

Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97

Cooling: Corsair H105 + 2 x SP120s + 3 x AF 140s

how many watts are needed?

CPU+Cooler: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.5GHz + Corsair H105 (Getting custom loop soon)  GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC  RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB  Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Hero  PSU: Corsair AX860i  Case: Corsair Graphite 760T Black

750W is where I'd spend my money, you could actually use a 550W though as a system with a sandy bridge 6 core overclocked, H100 plus drives with SLI 980 pulls 450W from the wall when the GPUs are under artificial/synthetic loads (I believe Furmark). But 750W will age more gracefully and gives extra overhead, less fan noise etc.

yes, I agree, I buy new parts for my PC alot of the time, but my major upgrade soon is going to be them 2 980s, I have a 760 right now, and I dont think my poor 650w will handle these babys AND everything else.

well depending on how old it is your 650 watt psu might just be enough, unless you plan to use the two 980's AND the 760 :P
