So my mates and i need help starting in the realm of Role playing games (i mean things like D&D)

So my mates and I thought it would be fun to give it a go but we have no clue what we are doing. Obviously we will play online first. I know we need to decide on the setting and all those things but is there an easy way to start and which rule set is best for beginners? This is the next level of nerd people :P
