Hello,

I'm looking to finally upgrade my gaming rig (giving it away) and thought I'd try out building my own from scratch after years of part replacements. However, picking an upgrade for an already designated system is easy, but choosing the basic foundation I have no idea where to begin or what is optimal.

My ideal budget is around 900, but, I am more then willing to put an extra 100 if it makes a substantial boost in performance. This is entirely for gaming, needs dual monitor (already have just need compatible motherboard), and capable of future upgrades (as much as new technology allows). Also, unfortunately, an OS will have to be included in the original budget.

.

Appreciate any advice and/or help and thanks for your time.

Yes, dollars is correct, should have specified.

Also, any recommendations if I wanted to splurge 100 more or on the flip side if I needed to downgrade? Just trying to get a feel for what is a must have and what could be switch around if other local deals can be found. Thanks for the responses.

I used a Z97 motherboard for this build because it will be compatible with Broadwell CPUs when they come out, and it is a quality motherboard.

Z97 mobo is waste of money for non K CPUs. btw about compatibility with Broadwell its well known they will be compatible with H97 an Z97 so mobo that i suggested is fine

Thank you for the additional build. Would you say the motherboard upgrade is worth the loss of SSD in the previous build?

Edit - Question answered.

I think it is. The motherboard is solid and will last you a long time. It also has a lot of great features, not just for overclocking. If you do want to overclock, you can spend the extra money for an unclocked CPU.

Unless the OP would like to SLI his cards, at which point it might be worth getting the Z97 board.

There is a quite a difference in your guys psu is that something I should take note of? Also, performance wise, how effective will the overclocking be in this system (never oc). I'd prefer to stay closer to 900 unless it truly is a substantial boost or if it allows for far greater ability to update down the road.
