Hey I'm new to the forum and I'm planning my first build and I need help deciding on a cooling solution. I'm leaning toward air cooling right now so any suggestions on heatsinks, fan size, and fan orientation would be helpful thank you.

Dont use a 5400 RPM drive in a desktop. Get a 7200RPM instead

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

Your spec seems a little unbalanced to Me. You only have a 128GB SSD and 1 x 8GB Ram. You would benefit from 4 sticks of ram due to the quad channel ram support.

Also that copy of Windows is overpriced. If you want windows 7 then just get the Pro version.

If you want an air cooler then BeQuiet or Noctua are both very good.
