(Genetics) Is this correct?

Jack.EXE

So, in my reading I discovered that it should be possible for identical twins to be one male & one female, as the egg is split, which could mean that the gene could be split as well, (YX>Y X> YX - XX) and an X is added to both halves (X can result from Y, but Y cannot result from X, save for an act of god!)

Anyway, so this seems to work on paper, can anyone confirm?

Generally that isn't possible.

Identical twins arise from the same zygote and thus have exactly the same genetic material - including the same two sex chromosomes. The main exception would be if a mutation happened in one of the cells so it lost a Y chromosome, resulting in a Turner Syndrome girl developing alongside an otherwise identical boy. That's VERY rare though.

You see... There's one... EXTREME FLAW with your idea.

Identical twins can't be different genders because they wouldn't be identical...

Identical twins is an imprecise name though. The proper name is monozygotic twins, because they derive from a single zygote. They are not completely identical.
