Will this cpu play games

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

He needs a much stronger CPU to be able to handle current games.

I am trying to help my brother with some things on his PC (it was free so no hating on the parts).

He has an AMD a6-3620, from what I know it has 4MB L2 Cache, and quad core. I was wondering if I paired it with a radeon 7770, and 8gb of 1333ram (max speed board would support, dual channel is enabled and has 4, 2gb sticks) what kind of performance it might get with a game like metro last light, or wolfenstien. I do not know much about AMD processors that's why I ask.

He doesn't have the graphics card yet so that can still change if a weaker or stronger card would be better. the reasoning for the games is because he wants to play the upcoming Fallout 4 with high settings and 35FPS or better at 1080p.

Nothing to see here, move along

it's about as good as my phenom 9500 (2.2ghz k10) which is ok for basic games, probably no chance with metro though.

With all this I know this wouldn't be the best location, but all I need to know is about the CPU, the rest is because some ask about the rest of the specs so I am answering it in advanced.

A socket upgrade would be much better.

That is true, but he doesn't want to upgrade unless necessary.

If he wants to play metro it is necessary.

he most likely won't play metro, but the reason I mentioned it is because Fallout 4 most likely won't require more than that.

Actually I think fallout 4 will want 4 threads (An I3 can deliver)

maybe, the min specs aren't out yet, but that might make sense knowing how bathesda treats their fallout games, combined with the demand of pc gamers and such. thanks for your help.

Bethesda hasn't said anything Official yet, a few people behind closed doors means nothing, better idea is to keep saving money and wait for a real announcement.

Bethesda likes making a big spectacle when they announce a new game in a franchise, like when they announced Skyrim, they would never announce Fallout 4 behind closed doors.

there has been no official announcement, there have been a few leaks and slip-up leading toward the existance of Fallout 4. yeah they do like to go big with announcements. but from trends I have seen with the Fallout franchise they tend to put more effort in it than the other franchises, so it is reasonable that they will make it so that will overall need more requirements, simmilar to how battlefield 4 needed more (hopefully fallout 4 won't be as broken). so with that Info I am just speculating on requirements for fallout 4, but yeah nothing concrete.

Also factor in bethesda LOVES saving money, they will likely cut costs and re-use skyrims creation engine, so I doubt the specs will be vastly higher than Skyrim.

that is true, but I bet it would be closer to a metro LL, and Arkham City hybrid graphics wise. I guess we won't know until it is officially announced.

As much as I and a lot of people I know on the Nexus want it to be a new engine with amazing new graphics we know it will just be slightly more polished than Skyrims graphics and modders will have to do the improving.
