Hey guys, first poster here and I was hoping that I could grab some assistance.

Recently bought a new rig and set it up all fine, (first build ever, will put specs below). It went fine for the 1st day, everything was being cooled well and working like a dream. But then I woke up the next day and decided to load up the computer, the CPU cooler wasn't working (The H100i). The pumps were pumping, the fans were spinning but there wasn't anything being cooled. CPU was at 100*C which wasn't too jolly.

Ended up throwing the stock CPU sink on but I'm wondering how I could fix this so I can put it back on.

Specs;

  • i7 4790k
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked ACX 3GB
  • NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case
  • 1Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY8GX3M2B2133C9R 8GB (4x4GB) DDR3
  • Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 1000W ST1000G
  • A lot of fans

Here's what I've roughly gotten an idea of, don't know if I'm on the right path or not;

  • Need to buy thermalpaste to retry placing it on
  • Make sure it's screwed on properly (Was last time but for some reason the screws they provide and the whole system didn't go in so it was very tight, was a bit before finger tight..)

That's about all I know, I'm headed to sleep now but any advice would be great! I'll respond to anything as soon as I wake up.

Cheers,

Greg

How do you know the pump is running? It sounds like a broken pump to me if the temps are 100C with the fans spinning and the block properly mounted. Try reseating the block and this time use the washers for a more tight fit and better contact with the CPU. If that does not work then there is no other option than the pump being broken.

Could feel one tube was cool, the other was warm. Thought that it was the flow. Will try next time with the washers as well, thanks.

Did you put thermal paste on? Is it making proper contact with the CPU? Check the mounting hardware.

Was the block making solid contact?

That's the thing, don't know. Screwed it on as tight as it could go but it just didn't feel tight enough that it was making full contact..

Came with pre-installed thermal paste.

Its unlikely that what you felt was the actual difference in temperature of the coolant flowing in- and out of the block, given that the difference in temperature on both sides of the block is usually less than a degree. It was probably one of your tubes hanging in the airflow while the other was being heated up.

Check your backplate and stiff to make sure its all making contact. You can remove the block without replacing the thermal paste but it obviously won't work 100% as good as before but it won't hurt to reseat the block.

When you mount it, you shouldn't be able to move it at all anymore. I mounted an h100i block for a friend and the manual suggested the wrong screws. (Not my topic, same problem)

Also make the sure plate is on the board in the correct orientation.
