Would the node 804 work for a high end build and stay cool, as well as being quiet and good for overclocking? Or would you recommend getting a mid or full tower case? I don't travel, so it's fine either way, but it's nice to have a smaller more portable computer. Thanks!

what will this PC be used for? there are a couple areas where I would re-allocate some of your budget.

also, a reference cooler might be better in a Node 804 because it will exhaust the hot air, although it may be a little louder.

nevermind 970's dont come with ref. coolers.

IMO there are a ton better Matx cases than the Node 804, it doesn't have the best fan configuration, and it has some design issues, like routing PSU cables can be a bit of a pain (specially the 8 pin CPU connector, that one is impossible). Also the hard drive cages are not practical the way they are made, and finally the fan controller has a weird location and breaks with the aesthetics of the build.

Some nice mATX cases are:

Corsair Air 240

Xigmantec Aquila

Silverstone TJ08B-e

Bitfenix Prodigy/Phenom/Colossus (mATX versions)

Corsair 350D

Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 and Define Mini

Silverstone FT03

Lian Li PC-V359

There are more good picks, but I can't remember them all now :P

Check the cases I listed above, most of them have windowed/non-windowed black/silver versions.

1080p gaming for now and possibly triple monitor gaming in the future with another 970. I will also be doing some light video editing.

I have, and honestly I'm starting to think about it even more. Both of those cases look very solid.

If you're going with mATX for size reasons, do keep in mind, a 350D isn't particularly small...It's quite large for an mATX case.

Some of those cases on the list are pretty terrible. The fractal has clean unobstructed airflow to all components that need it and I don't understand your complaints about cable routing. The fan controller issue is solved by just removing (or putting it at a static setting and moving it to the back). The tj08 is a fantastic matx case, but it doesn't have the flexibility the Fractal does. In my opinion the node 804 is the best matx case you can get, apart from maybe a Parvum s2.0.

I listed several because everybody has their own taste regarding cases.

The hard drive cage goes in the same spot where you have to cable route, and the CPU power connector gets totally blocked by one of them.

If you like the 804 go for it, but I don't like the overall design of the case and also I rely on dust filters to keep my components without dust, a case where you have to pull from a plastic front panel to reach your dust filters is a definite no-go IMO.
