the 780 is faster at stock but apparently maxwell overclocks really well. So if no overclocking 780 if overclocking 970

If you can pay the extra £40 then get the 970 hands down. Or maybe wait a few weeks to see how the prices are? You could wait for the 960 but that's probably too weak for what you're looking for.

trying to keep stuff to amazon and is zotac better than windforce

msi 970 for sure

less power, less heat, awesome overclocking ability.

More VRAM, better overclocking, lower power consumption and noise. That would be worth 40 quid to me. But for raw performance in 1080P, I'd choose the 780.
