Good build, but i'd go with 8320, it's cheaper, and with overclock, you can make it as fast as 8350 :D

Wanting to build a budget system under 1 thousand dollars. One that can hopefully max out BF4 and Crysis 3. Not picky on color schemes. No preference in case whatever is cheapest. Gaming is the only thing this build will be doing.

Remember to follow your threads :)

then you could just overclock the 8350?

it is probably a better option if you want to get under 1k though (or get a better cooler like the Shadow Rock 2)

How can I cut cost on this build

Wait, wait, wait... Did you seriously put an APU and R9 290... That's a pretty serious bottleneck...

Seriously I'm changing from console to computer gaming I have no idea what an apu is. I'm wanting to build my own computer for the experience. In the past I just went to best buy or whatever electronic store, walmart even to buy a computer, and playstation. Now I am wanting to get into computer gaming and you people make me feel so dumb. This is my first time, can you help me to understand. I have tried various ways to get answers, and all I get is a list of parts, with little if any feed back on what it can and can't do, and why those parts were recommended. I don't really know what I'm wanting which is why I'm here asking, trying to learn. What's the basics?

So the gpu is your graphics card which is the most important thing in gaming and is where you want to spend the majority of your budget. Next it the cpu which is your processor that isn't as important but it is still nice to have a solid cpu for gaming. A quad core i5 works very well. An APu combines the 2 and it is not recommended to get one. You will need 8 gb of ram and if you do video editing maybe 16 gb of ram. You need a sufficient power supply to run all of this and corsair makes some good power supply's. Your motherboard should be chosen based on what parts you are getting. That should cover the basics and good luck building

I think I want the gtx 970 but I don't know what games could/couldn't be played with it.

I think I want i5 4960k. I want to try out OC it seems safe enough since it's suppose to shut down if it gets too hot.

I want an Asus mobo. I want USB 3.0 just because the Arc midi has the 3.0 front port for that.

I want one graphics card.

I have a general idea of what parts I want but, I don't really know what parts can do what, or how to tell what parts have good value.

1080p would be an upgrade for me. Someone said a graphics card I picked like the gtx 980 (not sure) was being wasted by that resolution, I should get a 1440p. If I'm using 1080p wouldn't that help games play better since the graphics card is not working so hard for a more advanced screen, maybe thats not how it works?
