Ubuntu boot help (Old Old system)

So I have an old Vaio Media Centre PC and I was to use it for something more useful (so nothing on XP) and I need some help booting to a usb or cd to install it, if not, i would like some help even upgrading to windows 7 pro (I have an extra license) Any one willing or can help?

Yeah I know, I just need help getting it to boot off of a USB or CD/DVD

get the iso and extract it onto the USB drive (after a format) make sure that usb boot in the BIOS is on and just plug it in and boot
