Hi, I just sold my laptop so I need to get a new one. Here are the things it needs:

Good battery life

It has to be fast enough to run simple applications like Word and Chrome and iTunes

Here are the things it doesn't need to have:

Disk Drive

I'm not putting a price limit because I don't want to limit the recommendations. Thanks!

Hello joogules. What kind of price range are you limited at? & where are you located?

I would recommend a Macbook Air (8GB ram + 128/256SSD) config or hmm...something else like a laptop that might run off the igpu in 4th gen Haswell mobile parts i5 base. Discrete gpu would probably more or less likely end up being a 800/700 series.
