Random Reboots

I've had my computer randomly shut down and reboot three times in the last week or so. All of them give me the "Windows was shut down incorrectly message" on reboot.

 

Does anyone know how to track down what's wrong?

 

My first thought was that it might be overheating, but if it is, it's doing it in an odd way. Ordinarily I can't hear the fans, but whenever you put it under heavy load-like a stress test-the fans spin fast enough that I can clearly hear them. If it's overheating, it's doing it without ever increasing the fan speed to that point.

 

Any suggestions?

Is this a BSOD?

 

If it is you can download a program called Blue screen and it will show you the dump files so you can view the errors heres the program if you need it

No, it's not bluescreening. It's just shutting off and coming back on.

The only error I'm getting is the one telling me it shut down incorrectly.

its actutulay still possable for it to be a Blue screen even if it does not show to be one

 chances are it is one

Tthere's no delay before the reset. It goes from working fine to powered off.

 

Either way, it's not finding a log. And it is set up to save one.

your frist thought was overheating did you open the side up and cleaned it at all?

Yes. Again though, it's never increasing the fan speed. Fans are spinning fine and they spin faster when I stress test it.

 

It died again a few minutes ago. Two times in one night now.

did u check to make sure all drivers are up to date?

Yes.

The graphics driver's GeForce 340.52 Driver. As far as I can tell the newer one just added support for the new cards (which I don't have).

 

I don't know if it matters, but I just moved here. I'd been here about a day before the first reset.

wait did you download the blue screen program if so check it now i have had similar problems in past and it didn't scene any logs till after haveing on after downloading it

Yeah I did.

 

I did find the cause though. I'm an idiot and I'm very sorry for wasting your time.

 

There's something wrong with one of my outlets. It's really loose. There's almost no resistance when you try to plug something in or pull it out. I'd bump the cable under my desk and bang it shut off the computer.
