Hi guys, I've run into a problem networking a printer at my local high school, for my debate team. So far I've got the printer on the network, and the computers recognizing the printer, along with the correct driver installed, but whenever a student attempts to print a document, it'll become stuck in the print queue and never print. As far as I can tell, the print job is getting stuck somewhere between the computer and the printer, on the network. I've ruled out the printer having a problem, because I can get it to print a document directly through a USB cable to a laptop, and also from a flash drive directly plugged into the printer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Printer: Dell C3760N
  • Driver updated through windows update
  • Printer is recognized by the computer, along with Microsoft word

Get the printer's IP, and add a printer via an IP search. Should automatically find the drivers, and will automatically configure all the networking stuff so you don't have to.

As far as wireless/network printers go, I never use the software disk they come with. I always IP locate it, and let Windows do the rest.

Here is what you need to do. I hardly rely on Windows to find the correct driver for me. Do a google search for your model of printer and pull the driver off the OEM's website. Follow these instructions and it should be pretty easy.

1. Devices & Printers > Add a Printer

2. Local Printer

3. Select to create a new TCP/IP Port

4. Put in the IP your printer obtained (Find this by printing out a configuration page from the printer). DO NOT QUERY FOR DRIVER TO USE!

5. When the window comes up with all the different printers, hit the "Have disk" button at the bottom

6. Navigate to where your OEM driver is located & install

7. Choose the name & Choose sharing options

8. Print a test page

If you want, tell me the printer model and windows OS you guys are running and I'll link the exact driver you need.

Cheers.
