Hello everyone

I am a computer engineer student. I need to build computer primarily for programming. I started a build with pcpartpicker, but when I finish the build it look more like a gaming pc. Since I am still new to the whole computer world, can any one give me any tips to what would make a great programming computer. Also I do want to be able to render videos quickly as possible. My budget max limit is around the $2000 mark maybe a few dollars more.

Thanks for all the help, and I hope everyone has a nice day.

You definitely don't need to spend $2000 for a gaming/programming rig. $1000 or even less will do you fine. Give me a minute and I'll edit this post with a build.

This one is only $1200 and will have great gaming performance, and the 4790K will be great for rendering videos. Everything can be downgraded if you don't want to pay that much.

Edit: Im retarted, I forgot the link

You don't need a very high end rig for programming; however, in editing you really need some high specs. Do you need monitors and peripherals? Here's what I've made as of now.

Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Plus ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($134.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($109.99 @ Micro Center)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB ACX Video Card  ($329.99 @ Amazon)
Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1321.58
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

*Snip*

I think the gap between the PSU and the output is too much.

PSU: 650W

Output: 356W

It's a headroom to upgrade or overclock in the future.(He can buy another 970 if he wants to SLI)

I don't think he'll do that if he mainly programs and games.

Well he can easily change it to a Corsair CS450M if he wanted to.

At the moment I am using my tv as a monitor. It is not the best thing in the world, but i gets the job done (sometimes everything turns red for a couple of minutes) . With the build that you suggested I would try to get a ultra wide monitor so that I can accommodate multiple textbooks pdf and other programs in the window.

I do not think that i will overclock the rig; however, I do love the idea of being able to upgrade in the future.

Hey what would be a decent keyboard and mouse. I am currently using a keyboard from around the year of 2007 and a cheap Bluetooth mouse.

Razer DeathAdder 2013, Logitech's Gryphon or Proteus Core are some of the best mouse out there.A mechanical keyboard preferably with MX Blue or Brown switches can also be a good choice. Corsair, Razer(the 2013 edition) and Ducky can be considered in buying keyboards. :)
