Don't get Corsair AF fans. Stick with stock fans until something like 120mm Cougar Vortex fans go on sale for $5~, which they do from time to time.

Get a cheaper case, and a cheaper motheboard.

I guess you could make a start by removing the fans from the list. Your case comes with them and you can always add later if need be.

To be honest with you, I would not compromise too much on this, you will just end out with a system that you are generally not proud of

Then you will only have £40 to save, which I'm sure you could probably cobble together in a few weeks.

Compatible with Windows 95

There are many things you can do to save money on a build, but that will mean cutting corners... and only you can choose what to cut corners on depending on your priorities.

Here are a list of things that you can cut corners on that don't affect performance in any meaningful way...

- Case.
- Power supply,     you can eaisly find cheaper PSUs if you are willing to compromise on things like efficiency ratings, modular cables, ect.

- Motherboard,     it doesn't affect performance that much, you can get a cheaper motherboard if you are willing to compromise on some features...

- GPU brand,        you might be able to find a cheaper version of the same the GPU from a different brand, with a different cooler design.

- Memory,             you might be able to find similar spec memory at a cheaper price if you dig around, or you could get lower spec memory and overclock it.

i have heard 1866 mhz ram is the sweet spot for gaming

Ram speeds really doesn't matter for gaming (excluding APUs).

^this, and either way if you have to spare on something that's the first thing to cut after the case and fans. I've been happily gaming with 1333mhz ram for 3 years. Not saying you should get that (prices for 1600mhz ram have lowered so 1333 doesn't make a lot of sense anymore) but still, 1600 is more than enough.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

All RAM across a lot of seeds have all pretty much equalized these days with 1866/2133/2400 all being within a few dollars of each other. My G. Skill Ripjaws X 2400mhz was like $2 more than the 1600mhz kit, granted the timings aren't as good, but still.

British PC parts are expensive! The 970 is a good 100 USD more expensive than it is here...

Remove fans, cheaper case.

Well, that's where it heads back to, if the timings cancel out or almost the performance benefit there is no price premium, however there is one for the specific ram he chose if I recall correctly (cas 9 is pretty low for 1866 am I right?).

I do believe so. My 2400hz is 11-13-13-31 w/ cas 11.

One of these days I'll get around to tightening everything up.
