Thing is you are on a 500 series card, which is pretty dated at this point and is bottlenecked by its VRAM amount in today's games. In your case I would just pick up a 970 right now. Maybe pick up a second down the road if you find necessary. 

I really want to get the 970, but should i just sit and wait till the "gtx 1000" series next year and start fresh on the new big daddy 20nm chip?

 

Basically

 

>get top end of "this gen" 28nm chip

>stick it out and get next years new beastly 20nm chip which would superbly outperform the 900 series, ti variants included

this gen is 28nm

 

and I'd just get a 970, can always sell it a few weeks before next gen come out
