After days of research and a few headaches later, I've finally finished my list for my very first PC build and would like anyone's opinion on it. I want the PC, at least, to be able to play high end games at high settings (not necessarily Ultra settings) and at least 60 FPS. I want it to also handle live streaming and video chatting all at the same time and I plan to have it all run on dual monitors. Here's what I got and the cheapest price I can find:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz LGA 1150 ($279.99)

MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK ($191.99)

Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ($149.99)

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 ($359.99)

Power Supply: Cooler Master V650 Semi-Modular ($109.99)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB ($79.99)

SSD: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB ($114.99)

HDD: WD BLACK SERIES WD1003FZEX 1TB ($79.99)

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Universal CPU Cooler ($36.99)

Optical Drive: LG 24X Internal DVD ReWritable Drive SATA ($15.99)

I do not plan on overclocking. I'm pretty sure I went a little overboard on the video card but I mainly picked the one I did just to find a suitable power supply so I'd take any other recommendations. Also, I don't see myself using any DVD's so do I really need an optical drive? Is there a way to install the OS without it? The laptop I'm using now has a DVD drive. Can I use this?

you can install the OS using a thumb drive

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

the psu is a bit overkill for single gpu and not enough for dual gpu, so like 500-550W would be the best value, as long as its from a good brand like Seasonic, Corsair, Antec, etc.

the gpu is just fine for your build, wouldnt call that overkill at all... ;)

also you can install windows via a usb stick.

Hi @MynameBeSerge ,

I'll start in reverse order. Having installed OS via USB multiple times myself, I guess you shouldn't have any problem cutting off the optical drive. Especially if you're not watching films from a DVD. Kudos for choosing a drive from our Black line, which is the one we recommend for gaming, due to the performance. Nice capacity of the SSD and the RAM too.

As I see it (via pcpartpicker.com) the estimated wattage of your build is some 348W, so what @skullbringer said about the power supply is quite reasonable. Like him, I find that the Video Card is OK for your purposes.

In all, I like your build and it seems great. I hope you'll have lots of fun with it.

Cheers,

Titania_WD
