630w for 970 SLi?

Go to solution Solved by Najuno,

Is 630w enough, I have a 630w semi-modular be quiet! l8 pure power PSU so it's a good quality unit which does say it is capable of SLi. Just wondering if it's cutting it close or not and if it has the right current rails (very unsure about checking this myself)

Here's the PSU:

I am running 2 way GTX980 SLI with high OCs and my power draw out of the wall is 550W even. So the 970 needs less power, you should be fine.

It should be fine. If your PSU has a single 12v rail, then you shouldn't need to worry about current.

I think from what I've seen about power consumption from the new cards, 630w should be enough

the power consumption now is actually shhhhweeet :P i didnt expect my planned build with the 4690k and 970 to run at around 350 watts, surprised me actually.

Yeah and that's at the wall, PSUs are rated by their DC output (lower than their AC draw).

The 970 will have 145Watts TDP each so he won´t get as high as 550. And my 550Watts have an i7 Haswell E CPU within...
