So.. as you guys can see in the pictures, my dorm desk isn't very ergonomic (and why would it be, it's only a shitty dorm). I also have a very small desk chair that has no arm rests as well, so I was wondering if you guys knew of any way i could essentially attach something onto the desk that would give me more room between my eyes and the monitor (shown how close my keyboard is in the picture) and not damage or screw with the desk i.e no screwing in a keyboard tray or building a piece onto the desk.

Well, any suggestions are helpful so go crazy!

This is about as far out as i can get my keyboard before falling off the desk and yet it is right next to the monitor.

This shows my chair being all the way back touching my bed and how much space between the desk and me (I normally sit about half way)

A Keyboard tray? You can get them from your local office depot/staples.

You can use a monitor stand wide enough to slide the keyboard under it. It won't increase the distance between you and the monitor but at least you'l be able to open a book on your desk if you need to.

I actually also have a very narrow desk, so I know dem feels bro, but I have a keyboard tray, so I'm slightly better off.

You could use a monitor arm or somehow wall mount your monitor to free up your desk space? That could really see some improvement, however I'm not sure if that would be feasible given the properties of the desk and how it is attached to the wall. Also would potentially damage or leave marks, so this wouldn't work.

As a laptop user for most of the time, I don't even see the problem. Interesting how different people's working habits are really.

I'm actually using some high end programs like Autodesk Maya and Photoshop, so i use my beefy gaming desktop to provide easy of power.

Makes sense, also, having a large display for these programs is the key... But how is photoshop demanding exactly LOL :)

RAM wise it is, but nothing else and even then, 4GB of RAM could probably get you into photoshop LOL. My gaming machine has 16GB which is nice for rendering in Autodesk.

I can't add a keyboard tray to the desk. It will "damage" the desk and i will have to pay for the damages when i move out of the dorm after my program. It seems stupid and it is.. but i'm not paying some stupid bill because i need ergonomics.

I have 16GB on my ultrabook, so there's that... But yes Autodesk Maya will take advantage of that hardware, at least to some extent... I really don't know how to solve your problem. One thing I can think of is basically just putting a small table in front of the desk there, and then moving it around when you need the space there.

A small table isn't a bad idea. I was wondering if there are keyboard trays that extend out the same as a normal one, but only clip onto the desk, rather than screwing into it.

Yeah, not sure if that exists. I don't really know keyboard trays that much as I personally do not like them at all.

I don't either, but it would give me a bit more room on my desk.

Found it on amazon by searching 'Keyboard tray clamp on'

They are quite expensive. Maybe you could find a cheaper one on amazon, or give ebay a look.
