Motherboard Query

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Gryphon is sorta kinda slightly out of my budget. Also I forgot to mention I'm looking at ATX primarily ._.

And I noticed the Z97-AR, it has a strange display thing though..like there's barely anything there?

Right, there is not much in terms of display options.  I own one myself, and it has an incredible aesthetic, but it skimps out on some display options, but if you are using a dedicated GPU, you don't need all of those display options.  It still has an HDMI port, so you can still use the integrated GPU of your CPU if necessary.  You aren't going to be missing anything if you have a dedicated GPU.

Hi, I'm back with more questions to pick the brains of everyone :P

I'm definitely getting an i5 4690K for my build, as well as 8GB of HyperX Fury RAM. I just need to pick the motherboard - this is where I'm becoming extremely "picky" and it's getting somewhat embarrassing. For example: I was going to buy the Asus Z97-A as I really like the gold, it's not too gold and it's not too horrible, I think it's very subtle and complements everything else. But I don't like the brown PCB. I've also not seen very many reviews on it.

Any suggestions for a good motherboard in the £75 - £125 price bracket? I'm wanting it to be a good overclocker - gonna learn to do it.

I'm gonna buy a 970, unless I find some crazy deal on a 770/780 etc during black friday. If they're being discontinued I've got a feeling sellers are gonna shift them cheap for new stock. So I'll definitely go for the AR then, it's sweet. Thanks man

Happy to help.  I would shoot for a 970 as a minimum.  Its not just about the performance of the new card, but some of the features are a unique selling point.  Also, the overclocking headroom is there, so you can push a 970 past a 780 I would imagine.

From some benchmarks I've seen on youtube, the stock 970 is punching with the 780, give or take anything from 0.5 FPS to 3 FPS, but I imagine overclocking it will be awesome

Yea, the overclocking headroom on the stock cooler is supposed to be incredible.
