Hey guys, so currently I have an i5 3570K which is more than capable of handling games going forward and is a great CPU. However I have getting more into rendering lately and an i7 would really cut down on the rendering time. I'm talking like 2 1/2 hours for a 30 minute video to maybe 50 minutes? Anyway that's one possible upgrade path.

Other than that I wanted to get a 980, basically to be able to max out games without a problem for quite awhile. Currently I have a GTX 660 so it would be quite the jump for me, I also play on a 1080p display so I mean it's a bit overkill but I'd rather that than a 970.

Anyways which seems more logical at this point, I actually really want to get on the X99 platform though so that may be more expensive but I have about $500-$600 to spend.

And share thine opinions!

Yeah I figured GPU would probably make more sense especially since I want to go X99 so it would make more sense to get the Video performance upgrade before the increased processing power.

there honestly isn't any need for x99 ever unless you can justify it, how about finding a 3770k? you can still find them floating around on amzon

Because I have never been on the bleeding edge with enthusiast grade hardware so I want to this time around. Skimp on it down the line.

why not get a Xeon if you really want to render? that way you save money and can probably pick up a 970 while you're at it (possibly)

Don't really know much about them :o

they're pretty much i7s without iGPUs and used for heavy rendering primarily. In games they're about equivalent to i5s, but you they're i7s in every other aspect

What is one that you would recommend I don't really understand the product naming for the Xeons.

Too bad that Xeon doesn't have hyper-threading so it will be actually be worse than his current i5. I would go for the E3-1231 v3 for $256 which does have eight threads.
