i got a free computer today from a friend nothing is wrong with it except the southbridge heatsink is hot to the touch. i pulled it off and reapplyed thermal compound with no change. Any help or thought are greatly appreciated.

 

 

the mobo is a old asus P5L-VM1394

A south bridge that is literally to hot to touch is usually related to damage from a power surge of some sort, or someone increased the voltages literally cooking the SB to the point of death.  

 

The motherboard is also over 6 years old, it may have just died from usage.

i figured that i guess i was hoping for a crazy fix someone had up their sleeve lol ill prob just scrap it
