I live in an apartment with three other roommates. Our Internet speeds are 20 mbps down. Whenever we do speed tests they are able to get very close to 20 and I get about 3. We are all about the same distance away from the router so that isn't the problem. And I thought that the wireless adapter I have could've been but then I tried using my roommates' and I still got the same bad speeds. Do you guys know why this is or what I could do to fix it?

could it be something physical like a wall which is interfering with your connection, wireless phones also screw up signals. try downloads from another location like one of your roomates rooms to see if it somehow isnt your pc?

Yes Yes Legalize Gay Marriage sure, but have you ever considered Weaponizing Gay?

either im being stupid or this post is confusing I need some more info. So your roomate gets 20, then your roomate gets 3? Do you mean that he has a PC and runs the speedtest and its fast. You take the Card out of his pc and put it in yours and it's slow

The thing is they're actually going through more walls than I am.

Are you using a different frequency? using 2.4ghz or 5ghz will give different results.

Yes we each have PC's with our own wireless adapters. His is a little nicer than mine so I thought that could be why he was getting much better speeds. Mine is kind of cheap. But even with his card I got the same crappy speeds.

Maybe reset your wireless adaptor and redownload the drivers. Last time I had problems with my network card it turned out to be the OS messing up and now it works fine after a clean install. Wireless cards are a pain in the ass at times.
