HyperX Cloud vs Plantronics Gamecom 788

Hello guys, so I need some advice, with my new build coming up I need a new headset because my gamecom 367's just broke. I have read a couple of reviews that say the HyperX is better sound quality while the mic on 788's is superb, not to mention the set and accessories that come with the HyperX is superior by far, so this is my question : Which would you pick? I really like the gamecom's because I heard the mic test and it sounds at least record quality which I really want because I plan on video recording. Or should I go with the HyperX and get a blue snowball or yeti when I get some extra cash? Thanks.

From what I've read, they basically have the same-ish sound signature (both having a slight emphasis on low-ends [bass]).

I'd personally go with the HyperX Cloud if it were my decision. You're gonna get a good sounding mic and headphones either way.

Alright thanks, and is it worth investing in a recording device like a blue snowball or yeti for recording?

If you consider the possibility of getting a real microphone then, please, get a pair of headphones.

But aren't headsets better for gaming? 7.1 Surround sound, footsteps etc.

Not really. If you google it you'll definitely get a better explanation but, long story short:

Most gaming headsets with surround (5.1 or 7.1) emulate all those extra drivers. They are actually 2.1 and a software emulates the rest. I'm not saying it is bad, it's just not real surround, it's virtual surround. Also, from such a close distance like in a headphone, you can't even tell the difference of the surround like in a cinema room and any stereo 2.1 solution will do the job, maybe even better, regarding positional audio (telling where footsteps, shots, explosions, etc are coming from).

Headsets are only "better" for gaming because of the convenience of having a headphone and a microphone integrated. However, to achieve that at a reasonable price, the quality is worse in both "devices".

So, if you are considering getting a separate microphone, get a good headphone and you'll have a better audio/recording experience.

In my case, for example, I needed something integrated and wireless, thus I got a wireless headset. I know, from experience, that my solution is not the best quality of sound wise. But I'm not an audiophile either so... it's really up to your needs and your budget.

Personally I'm not an audiophile and I have been using a headset for a couple years now, I doubt I will be able to tell the difference so Ill stick with my headset for game communication etc for convenience and get a mic for videos.

If you've used them for so long, you probably will notice a difference, but everyone is different. :/

Well, if you can, go to a store and try a $500 headphone for 10 minutes. You'll be able to tell the difference, trust me.

Now, back to your case, I have seen streamers that do that. They have a microphone for talking/recording videos but they use the headset for that whilst gaming, it's not a bad idea I guess.

So, do you know what you prefere: (p)leather or foam headpads? Would you benefit from it being wireless? Is there a budget? Only going to use with your PC?

I'd say V2100 wireless or Siberia V2 wired. I have used both and they are comfortable headsets, with good build/audio quality for their price, IMO.

Check this for a member review from the HyperX Cloud and also watch Linus' and other video reviews, it really looks like it's a great wired headset.

Yeah I would have liked wireless ones but I am getting these instead because of the extension cables that come with it so I don't lose some of the quality or have to pay really high prices for a set. My current headset uses a cloth type ear cup which are fine, I think I will like the pleather ones that come with the HyperX clouds but they give you a cloth pair.
