I have built a computer about 3 weeks ago, http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/. I have an issue where when i go to shutdown the pc, the cpu light on the motherboard comes on and the fans keep running. If i turn off the power supply or the surge box the comptuer is plugged into everything turns off. I have had no issues when the computer so far its just an annoyance really. Thanks for any help.

Is the BIOS the latest version? Although that shouldn't affect that, it may fix an issue with shutting down that the motherboard was plagued with. Also, try reconnecting all your major power connections. (CPU, motherboard and video card) Also, the link takes us to a blank parts pick list.

Is there an option in the bios about power management or something similar? you might not be shuting down your computer, your might just put it in a stat of low power consumption.

Ahm, ya, that usually happens when you cut it off power. And that really really bad for the components if it's still running.

Perhaps a bad windows update? Have you given it some time? Is it making windows updates?

If you are using the powerbutton to shut it down, is it perhaps set to sleep instead of shut down?

Also, when did this issue creep up? Recently or was it always there?

I have the latest bios, and have tried reconnecting the cords. I have a question though im am using a splitter on some of the fans, and some of the fans have 3 pin connectors instead of 4 pin. Can that cause an issue?

This started when i first built it.

All updates have installed fine.

I go through the shutdown on the start menu not pressing the power button.

Hmmmm. That might cause an issue. Not sure. Could you disconnect those particular fans and then try shutting down again?
