So i saw Austin Evans' video comparing the i3 4130, and i5 4670k. Pairing it with a mid range GPU (thats what im gonna get) the difference in FPS is just couple a frames in most games, so im like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat (my brain really hurts) so is it really worth getting the little dual core hyperthreaded i3????????? how will it put up paring it with a GTX 760 in 1080p gaming??? I know you cant overclock the i3 (a k variant i3 would be awesome) I know the i3s are underrated but THIS MUCH?

And my final quiestion is should i buy a z97 board or a z87?

THanks

It depends on the game. Some games are more cpu intensive than others. If you can afford it, then get a 4690k.

As for z87 vs. z97, get z97 unless its decently cheaper. Z97 has official broadwell support, m.2, sata express, and a better (more table) power delivery system (helpful for higher overclocks with lower voltages)*.

*the last point about a better power delivery system is only based off of one person--I haven't seen it written anywhere else, so it could be a fluke; but its something to keep in mind.

Z97 board for sure.

For the CPU, it depends on the games you play, some games will benefit from a few more cores, others will not.  Since a lot of games run better with fewer faster cores as apposed to more slower ones, an overclocked pentium K should perform better in those games than the i3, so bare that in mind.

That's what I say, the G3258 is a pretty badass little CPU and it can overclock. But think about it, it's only 2 cores. Not even hyperthreading. I just don't feel "safe" with only 2 cores. They may be pretty damn powerful cores, but once a software starts being thread-whores, the G3258 is going to pitfall. But still a cool CPU nonetheless.

It doesn't have hyperthreading.

It's tough to say exactly, but unless you get an awful chip, you should be able to go above 4GHz easly.

Yes it is the one you have linked.

You are never "safe" as long as they are new programs coming out.

Not to mention you are not "safe" with AMD cpu at all.

i usually run more programs in background (steam, chrome, a music streaming like spotify) so will i be better off with the hyperthreding of the i3? because i dont wanna close everything, THEN start gaming cuz my little 2 core cpu wont be able to multi-task.

He's referring to the lack of multithreaded performance the pentium has, and it's ture the pentium will struggle with heavy multi tasking.

For gaming, but JUST gaming, I mean no other multitasking (unless it's light), with just the game open; the Pentium G3258 is a very good choice, it overclocks nicely.

I'm quite a heavy multitasker and I had the opportunity to test the G3258, and even with the OC on the Pentium; my sister's Ivy Bridge i3 was more snappy when I was doing several things at the same time. And of course the i5 is even better,

Depends on your use, if you just want to play games without spending a ton, the G3258, a H81 motherboard, a bios update, some OC and a nice mid range GPU can get you through 1080p high settings gaming without a problem,

If it were my money I'd go i3 for sure (or even save some more $ for an i5). But your needs may vary.

What? I never said anything about being "safe" with AMD. But you're "safer" for longer with a CPU with more cores. i.e. i5, i7

I wouldn't say the G3258 can't outright multitask, because I'm pretty sure it can, to an extent. Unless you don't have an excess of let's say 5 programs open, you should be fine, but I don't own one, so I can't say for sure.

Its a good intermediary CPU while you save up for an i5/i7. I see it as being a much more sensible option in a gaming computer than an i3 as its half the price and can be upgraded to an i5/i7 just as easily.

Thing is, i dont live in the US and here there are like NO PC PART SHOPS AND NO AMAZON SHIPPING (there is but it costs the same as the item im buying) so i want it to be able to last at least 2-4 years, that how often i travel to the US most of the time.

H81 is 1150, so are H87 H97 Z87 Z97 and B85. H81 offers Sata III (6gbps) USB 3.0 and all the stuff needed for a nice and functional gaming rig. H81 motherboards usually cost $50-60. You can use the 1150 CPUs on the 1150 chipsets. Manufacturers like Asus and Gigabyte released bios updates on many of their motherboards that allow overclocking on the Pentium G3258.

It doesn't make any sense to go for a dual core CPU and spend $100+ on the motherboard, if you are going to spend that much money go with H81 and a i5.
