Nope. X99 boards use 5820k, 5930k, or 5960X.

 

4970k and 4770k are used on LGA 1150.

Hi, newbie here. (planning to build 1st custom pc)

 

Is i7-4790k or i7-4770k compatible with x99 boards?

No it isnt,

 

The way to tell if your cpu is can work with your motherboard is to check the specifications, the CPU is LGA1150 and X99 motherboards only take 2011-3 CPU's all the info is on each manufactures websites / pc parts websites
