KVM switches

Wingfan

I would like to get one seeing as i now my 2nd PC is running and only have one monitor.

Would a KVM have an effect if im gaming? if so, how bad would it be?

What are some good brands?

Budget would be $60

Thanks for any feedback :)

-edit- if this is posted in the wrong area please tell me

A switch should have no added latency whatsoever. They just pass through the signal I think

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

Uh? no why would it effect gaming? it just allows you to connect your peripherals and monitor to 2 pcs, it does not require any performance from your PC, its just a basic switch, it does no processing

Belkin make some decent ones

Wasnt sure if it would cause a latency problem.

Thanks for the feedback :)

A KVM switch shouldn't add any latency, but keep in mind that the cheap ones only come with VGA ports: The switches with DVI are more expensive

Molex to SATA, lose all your data

I can't speak from experience, the only KVM switch I used was a vga one on a low res monitor. I believe that you'd have to spend at least 75$. This one seems to work: http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-2-Port-DVI-D-Cable-GCS932UB/dp/B002TQYSN8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It also seems to support resolutions up to 1920x1200

I have got a Belkin Soho and the thing has some latency issues. If I use my mouse at higher DPI settings then it freaks out.

I bought mine off of ebay for very cheap. Keep an eye out on there as there is some bargins to be had!
