Posted September 9, 2014 Thinking about getting an FX-6300 with the Gigabyte SKT-AM3 78LMT-USB3 (Rev 5.0). Is the AMD 760G Chipset any good? Not looking to overclock really... Mainly choose this board because it's µATX and i wanna get a smaller case at some point. Any reasons to get an ATX board with AMD 990X Chipset like ASUS M5A99X EVO R2 or Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3? Posted September 9, 2014 No. Don't get a 760G board. - No native USB3 - No native Sata 6GB/s - Terrible VRMs cause throttling under load - It's from 2009 2008, you're basically paying 'full price' for ancient stuff. Well the ATX boards have some slightly better features, more lines and such, also has more VRMS which will help to facilitate a better overclock ^^ Intel is better if you're looking at microATX. What would be the biggest advantages? Either get an MSI 970 Gaming or a high end ASUS 990FX board if you go ATX, personally I've had issues with gigabyte. Most non atx AM3 boards will run a 6300 but don't expect to over clock it. Also smaller cases limit your upgrade paths, from personal experience, I would go ATX for AMD and nothing else Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/212081-am3-mobo-choice/#findComment-2879332 Share on other sites
 Posted September 9, 2014 if you really want matx, you should consider a g3258 with a matx z97 board, then consider a possible broadwell upgrade in the future or if not an i5 or i7 down the road. the 990fx boards have better vrm solutions which is key to power the 6 and 8 core fx-es i7-4790k | Asus Z97i-Plus | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | MX100 256gb | Seidon 120XL | Silverstone SFX 600w Gold | Node 304 White G3258 | Asus Z97i-Plus | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | 4 x 3TB WD Reds | Seidon 120XL | Silverstone SFX 600w Gold | Node 304 Black i7-965EE | Rampage II Extreme | Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb | CM M2 700w | Sapphire Nitro 380 4GB Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/212081-am3-mobo-choice/#findComment-2879619 Share on other sites
 Posted September 9, 2014 For AMD just go ATX indeed. for the FX6300 there are a few boards you could concider. If you like to have a decent upgrade path to a FX8 core and full 16x Sli / CF options, then its better to grab a 990FX chipset board. Like Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0 If you dont care about sli / CF then you could also grab a 970 board basicly. Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 Msi 970 Gaming. I personaly dont like Gigabyte AM3+ boards either, thats why i dont recommend one, Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/212081-am3-mobo-choice/#findComment-2879645 Share on other sites
