I have a SONY VAIO S Series Laptop just a little over 2.5 years, standard factory specs:

-Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

-Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @2.8GHz Turbo 3.5GHz

-Upgraded 8GB RAM

Recently it has been running really slow with lots of non-responding applications/slow start up/latency during gaming(not by network). I have done defragmentation/disk clean up/cleaning registry from once a month to twice a week but the problem comes back in a day or so.It gets really annoying when you are multitasking or in this case try to but the applications just becomes non-responsive. With the specs I have I believe it should handle more than what a casual user like myself uses (i.e. browsing, word, steam games etc). I'm thinking it might have something to do with the hardware side of the computer and looking for advice on that. Also, I was thinking if its possible to use parts from the laptop and make it into a PC or some other way to keep my laptop cool besides the limited ventilation a laptop fan can offer as I spend 5-10 hours a day in front of the screen. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you have run a malware scan. Look at Task Manager to see if you can spot something that takes up a lot of resources. Disable unnecessary apps that like to reside in Startup. Watch out for TSR apps too. It's the usual Windows issues.
