Hey guys. I'm looking into building a z97 gaming build. The system might be in for some editing down the line.

 My build right now

- fx8320 (4.5ghz) cooled with h80i

- crosshair v formula z

- 8gb of 1866 ram

- r9 280x

- 1tb black wd x2

- kingston hyper x 240gb

My concern right now is that I've been hearing that broadwell might be releasing late this year or early next year. Would it be wise to upgrade to a z97 build, or should i wait it out?

I don't think you need to build a new pc if you're thinking about that. you can still edit like hell. the preview in sony vegas for example is done by the gpu. your gpu is nice so you're fine. as you have a amd gpu you can let it render with opengl too. if you really wanted a new cpu i'd just buy a z97 board with xeon support and buy a xeon 1231 v3. costs as much as an i5 but has the performance of an i7 4770k (at stock speeds)

                                                                                      wow... pretty empty here...

Your current build seems pretty reasonable. Are you finding it lacking or do you simply feel that you would like something more powerful?

It appears that enthusiast Broadwell desktop cpu will not be available until sometime in 2015. The release next month is of cpu targeted for low profile, low power applications such as laptops, tablets, etc.

@Perplexor - My suggestion would be to wait. You already have a really nice gaming rig as it is that will be more than powerful enough for the next year or so.

Wait and see what happens when Broadwell launches and performs.

Powerful yes. My rig has been well to me, but i just want something that will give me more. z97 will be compatible with broadwell when it does come out correct?

Broadwell is supposed to be compatible with Z97 but until Intel actually releases models for Z97 LGA1150 I would not depend on it.

You might consider taking a look at the GTX 9xx when they are released and upgrading your gpu. When Broadwell comes out sometime in 2015 you can upgrade, moving the gpu to the new system.
