OK so I put together a media pc for my living room with the intention of overclocking this cpu. The duties planned are running a couple console emulators, vlc, and play some low task steam games (sonic 4,etc) so far it's performed flawlessly, so today I decided I wanted to check out how everything is doing and I load up aida64 and I see a surprise. In bios I have it set for 4.8 with 1.318v but in Windows, aida64,and cpuz it is showing 3.2??? So I'm that's not right, so I start a stress test and load cpuz again, and again I get 3.2.... Wtf?

So here I am asking questions with my settings and hardware listed below

Pentium g3258

Asrock h97m pro 4 mb

8gb 1600 corsair

Evga gtx750 ftw 2gb

Kingston 120gb ssd (os)

Seagate 1tb for storage of roms/etc

750w corsair

Corsair h105 with cooler Master jet-flo's

Corsair air240 case with plenty of fans

Windows 7 pro

Settings~

Power setting in Windows is set to performance

It's settings are

CPU ratio is set to all core and 48

Cache radio - auto

CPU oc fixed mode - enabled

Filter pll free - high bclk mode

Internal pll overvoltage- enabled

Long duration power limit - 75w

Short duration power limit - 75w

CPU voltage mode - override mode

Vcore override voltage - 1.318

Cpu integrated vr4 faults - disabled

CPU integrated vr4 efficiency mode- disabled

CPU c-states (currently disabled, was just c1e)

Everything else is auto....

So I am a little stuck here, and am open for opinions, which of course all are welcome

You have a H97 board. You need a Z97 Board in order to overclock

 eGPU Setup: Macbook Pro 13" 16GB DDR3 RAM, 512GB SSD, i5 3210M, GTX 980 eGPU

New PC: i7-4790k, Corsair H100iGTX, ASrock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer, 24GB Ram, 850 EVO 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, GTX 1080 Fractal Design R4, EVGA Supernova G2 650W

OK got it, just not where I wanted it to be but still a good overclock.

Got a 4.4 with cache set to 3.9 and voltage @1.316, that's all I could get out of this processor with this board, if I could slow it down to enter Windows it might help get to the 4.8 but couldn't find the option. I sure if I had a better board(not saying this one's bad) I might be able to clock higher, but at the moment temps are 25 to 29c idle, and under aida64 stress 52 to 58c, currently it's stress testing to make sure the clock is stable, but so far so good it seems :)
