Old AMD CPU overclocking problem

Go to solution Solved by msvelev,

I cleaned the stick with a rubber eraser, then blowed with some canned air on it, put it back in and now everything works just fine :)

Thank you two for the help!

Hope I'll be able to return the favor

P.S. not sure if it's polite to pick my answer as best but it describes what solved the problem

Hello beautiful people,

I have a 5 year old pc which has a WinFast MCP61SM2MA-RS2HV motherboard with AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+ in it.

For the past 3 years it's been running at 2.7GHz OCed (stock speed is 2100), but today I noticed a slight stuttering while watching a 1080p movie on my pc.

I checked CPU-Z and it said that my bus was back to 200MHz (from I think 260) and core voltage was still at the overclocked value 1.4V.

Then I went into the BIOS and there it said 200MHz also, so I changed it to 260 and restarted the PC however in CPU-Z it still said 200MHz bus and 2100 core clock speed.

I restarted again went into BIOS and it said 260MHz... Tried the same routine with 210/220/230 MHz - it changes in the BIOS but when I boot into windows it's 200MHz.

I've done the OC 3 years ago so I don't remember what else have I changed back then in order for this to work, but I played a bit with the other options and nothing helped.

Do you have any ideas what can fix this? My multiplier is locked so I don't have access to it.

The thing might've screwed up when I switched to windows 8.1 from win7 last week. Are there any known issues with this?

Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks & best regards,

Mincho

W8.1 set to High Performance in Power Profiles?

Never know.... Old HW VS New SW

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Are you sure the FSB in that MB only raises CPU frequency?

Normally applies for RAM too (and in some cases (and in my XP 2600+ build) it OCs PCI and others (which you don't want to OC...))

In the BIOS it says CPU frequency: 2xx MHz so I think it's only for the CPU.

And @SkilledRebuilds it is sed to Hight Performance.

-_- you didn't check other frequencies 3 years ago by any chance, right?

Don't think so. I had a few pictures of stock vs after the OC but the've been lost as the years went by.

To disregard W8.1 causing it,...

As you said W7 it was fine..

Maybe a HDD shrink, create a small partition, quick install of W7 and do drivers - check your OC in that and see if it sticks.

(If you got the time and it isnt a huge hassle)

Put ur ram stick in other ram slots and test.

Just to eliminate more stuff.

I have 4 ram sticks in 4 slots. 2 of them are the same and the other two are different

I'll leave in just the two newest ones for the test

Ok so I removed two stix and the OC works now and this is my memory. Everything was set back to stock except I increased the bus to 210 and it changed accordingly. I'll now try to insert the other sticks one by one and see what happens.

Giggity

Hope you can bolster the Ram back in and keep your OC.

Swap around sticks until it works in one of the 4 slots with the rest....

Or Get rid of the Adata stick,... Replace it / buy another stick and use that (Which I'd be doing to keep the overclocked speeds in play)

Hey it's a valuable tip - Clean your connectors and dodged stuff might clear up :)
