When you are reading about a motherboard if it says it supports a 3rd generation processor does that mean it cant support 4th generation processors?

3rd generation processors are on socket 1155 while 4th gen cpus are on socket 1150 so no it cant support a 4th gen cpu

When you are looking at mobo and cpu compatibility, socket and chipset are ones you need to match.
