New Headphone Suggestions

So I am on the look out for a new pair of headphones (obv) and I was wondering if you guys had any other suggestions. I don't really game or anything but want something to listen to music. I heard the m40x/m50x were good and found the m40x on sale! The thing with m40x is that it doesn't come with a short cable and I haven't seen one in Canada. I also heard that ATH use a proprietary connector on their headphones.. Did I just miss them or is there a workaround?

What I am looking for in headphones

- Quality

- Over-ear

- Closed (for public use)

- Glasses friendly

- Durable

- Phone Use (public)

- No amp :(

Budget: max $200 CAD

m40x:

^ isn't this a good deal for m40x in Canada? I haven't seen them go lower than $109 CAD

--never mind they're studio monitors--

Uh... what? I don't understand what you're trying to say here.

I edited out my suggestion because there's no standard (2.5?)mm jack on the M50s.

I did read a guy on head-fi said he drilled out the plastic nubs on his M50X, shoved a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter in, and hot-glued it together. IMHO, be better to just go with a Custom One Pro if considering the M50X, because a $12 never-gonna-break V-Moda cable will fit just fine on that.

3.5mm for future reference.

No, the M40X and M50X have a 2.5mm locking connector on the headphone.

Is that what he meant? "I edited out my suggestion because there's no standard (2.5?)mm jack on the M50s." I read it as it doesn't use a standard 3.5mm jack, not that it uses it. So we're agreeing on it not being a 3.5mm :P

Another vote for Beyers DT 770 Pro

Absolute comfort and fantastic sound. Check reviews. There aren't any that say anything bad about them.

Have them, for money they cost, asolute steal.

And every part is replacable, big bonus too.

Apparently they are really comfy with glasses too, check reviews on youtube, you won't regret it

Also they come with both 3.5 and 6.3 mm plugs

If you listen to music I suggest going for 250 Ohm version, it has a bit better mids, and than pair that with a good dac/amp or soundcard to drive them

note: i checked them with lumia 1520, and they are loud enough...

However they aren't really for use outside. For that i'd reccomend shelling out bit more for sennheiser momentum, yes

Sennheiser momentum over ears

^^

M50x's may also be good if they are in your budget, I feel they offer good sound, comfort (as some one who wears glasses, i can say they are very comfortable) and are well made for the price. They don't need an amp, a phone can easily drive them. They are not the best for outside use but not too bad, they done come with a shorter cable for phones which is nice.

I would do that for listening at home but both headphones are out of my budget in Canada, even more so with an amp.

I heard that COPs sound mushy compared to m50x and m40x. Is that wrong?

What does mushy mean? I've been in this hobby for awhile and that's the first time I've heard that one.

Haha yea. I heard it in a review somewhere where the guy was comparing m50x(or m50) with COPs. Anyways how is the sound quality between the two?

I really feel like there is no perfect over ear headphone for portability. The ones that come the closest for me are the COP and the Momentum over ear but both have their issues. The COP I felt was not as good as the DT770 in terms of both sound and comfort (mainly the pads) and a bit too pricey. The Momentum over ear was a bit too small to be comfortable for a long time. I think some good IEMs with comply tips are better for portability.

Depends on the size. My ears could fit just right inside the V-moda m100, but I'd imagine those are more like on-ears for people with bigger ears, though.

I think the COP is beyer's attempt to have a go at fashion headphones (while still sounds good), hence the extra price. It could go well (considering how many people craving for beats just to be fashionable), if only they did a good advertising campaign.

In ear monitors are good, I'd buy them myself, but finding some that fit perfectly is a pain, and those built for you personaly are too expensive. You could also go gheto and make ones yourself but that just looks ridiculous

Try comply foam tips
