Hello! My system (used mainly for gaming, a bit of game recording and editing in vegas) is getting kind of old, so I need an upgrade to my CPU and ram (and since my motherboard only supports old CPUs and DDR2, I need a new one too :P)

Here’s what I’m currently running:

Motherboard: MCP7AM01
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
Ram: 4,00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 570 OC 1280mb
(if you need to know anything else let me know!)

I’m looking to buy something along the lines of an FX-6300, an Asus M5A78L-M LX3 AM3+ and 8gb of DDR3 ram (whatever’s cheapest, really; altough I want to use dual channel and 1600MHz). Would that be fine for gaming, recording and editing? Would it “bottleneck” my GTX 570? What if I upgraded to a GTX 760?

Thanks in advance!

If you're gaming, I'd strongly recommend upgrading to a better GPU. An FX-6300 with a GTX 760, R9 270X or R9 280 (depending on prices where you live, the R9 280 is the same price as the GTX 760 on newegg and outperforms it) should do the trick for you. If you're serious about editing, I'd maybe even consider upgrading to an i5 or i7, if your budget allows it. Otherwise, the 6300 will not be a huge update from the Core 2 Quad.

I'm guessing you want to upgrade, CPU, motherboard, ram and GPU? What is your budget for this upgrade?

I was thinking of upgrading the mobo, ram and cpu now and maybe upgrading the gpu in a year or so. My budget for the mobo, ram and cpu is about 200€ (around $270).

My PC handles games that aren't too cpu intensive, though when they are it can't do it. I played DMC on ultra a while back (I'm running a single 1080p screen, by the way) at around 90fps, but if I try loading something like Watch_Dogs or DayZ or anything that's even mildly cpu intensive, the framerate dips below 30, while my gpu usage remains on 20-30%. That's what led me to think the CPU was the problem... though I might be wrong.

For gpu I'm unsure about your budget, I would just save up and buy something better than a GTX760

I checked how much that was here, and I guess we have really high taxes or something? It's about 289€ here... ($378)

I'm also a student, so I don't really have tons of money to throw at this PC. I may be able to find components for cheaper, but I don't expect it to be anywhere near as cheap as they are in the US.

EDIT: Last time I upgraded my gpu I got my 570 for about 200-250€ so for the GPU maybe around that budget too.

Okay, what about changing the CPU to the FX6300. GPU, I would wait until the new ones come out, then you can post a thread then.

With the FX-6300 it's 250€, but again I think I may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

Yup, I'm not going to upgrade my gpu for a year or so. Any ETA on the new ones? :P
