Hi! :)

I'm currently using the onboard audio on my Maximus V Formula and I was wondering if this usb DAC worth it over my current audio solution. Your opinions are much appreciated! :) Thanks.

No, not really.

Afaik, Maximus V formula already has some of the best onboard audio of any motherboard, so it's great straight out of the box.

I have a Xonar U7, they're pretty expensive, but the only reason i got it was 1. it was on discount, and 2. My laptop's audio output has a hiss and crackle that is audible OVER my music, and I just couldn't stand that. (probably could have gotten something cheaper but the U7 was the most accessible at the time)

Add: maybe the best thing about the U7 in your case is that is has an awesome volume wheel that is soooo much more convenient than keyboard buttons. Also it would allow you to bring the audio output jack to your desktop (physical desk) and so plugging in a headphone and mic would be much more convenient. But that shouldn't be your reason to buy one

That's good to hear mate! :) Would it be better if I spent the money on something like a Corsair H105/110 to upgrade my H90?

HAHA good to HEAR (get it!? we're talking about audio? HEAR!?)...ok, I'll go back to my corner

I forgot how much the U7 cost...

But if you could fit it, a kraken x60/x61 would be a nice upgrade. What are your current temps on your cpu under load?

That was unintended but I can't believe I missed such a great pun opportunity, good catch man. :D

Well my current temps are pretty high due to 2 780ti classified cards blowing all the heat into the case thanks to the ACX cooler. :D But it's mostly dependant on the case I have (550D) which is a fucking oven... I'll be getting an Enthoo Luxe. The bigger rad would be nice for me I think...

Btw, what about the Swiftech H220X that I just discovered? :)

EDIT: Oh, I'm sorry I didn't even notice the Krakens you recommended because I was laughing my ass off. :D They look pretty hice too.

Most external amp or dac/amp solution are going to have a volume wheel. ASUS' offering is far from unique in that aspect.

I know it's not unique, I was just saying that I find using a volume wheel more preferable than the keyboard media buttons.

But anyway, I have the U7 and use it daily, but I'm recommending against it because the Maximus V formula already has a pretty good audio solution, so an external dac is rather unnecessary imo.

My point is that, there are other solutions that should be a bit better in terms of sound while still having that volume knob.
