The 280x is an overclocked 7970, faster than the 7950. But depending on the price difference the 7950 might be worth it.

I would readily recommend Sapphire over Gigabyte for AMD any day, so take that as you will.

It's a Sapphire cooler, they're probably the best AMD card aftermarket solution.

 

I mean, your ambient's gonna go up a lot but the card itself will be great.

The 280x is an all around beefier card over the HD 7950.Cooling and sound are on a per GPU basis and are in no way better on the HD 7950. In fact I would say the the 280 can be cool, quieter and at the same time is a faster card.
