Power Supply requirements

Go to solution Solved by Thorium19,

I would suggest you have a look here, as it will give you the info you need. IF you intend to crossfire, then an 800W is the most you will need IMO, unless you really are going to be stressing it. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/199255-how-many-watts-do-i-need-check-here/

power supply choice for your situation in my view would be the EVGA supernova 850G2, which is 80plus gold, and has the wattage you will need with room for Xfire, as well as being very good quality with good components inside.

Hi everybody new here.. My current issue is what power supply to get I looked everywhere to figure out where to post this but I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section.

My specs...

CPU -i7 4790k

Harddrive - Samsung 840 Pro

Ram - Corsair 4gigs x4

Motherboard -  Asus Formula VII

CPU Cooling - H100 - I want to upgrade to a custom loop, cooling both the graphics card, and the CPU.

VGA - R9 290x - I want to put a second one in.

Right now I have already ordered the XFX ProSeries Black Edition 1250w PSU.. is that enough for everything or should I go higher. I plan to do Some heavy over-clocking with the custom loop.

Please respond quickly as I have already ordered the PSU but I have some time to cancel it because of the labor day weekend.

Thanks!!

Hmm... Well I tried out those websites that calculate how much you need for your set up and I got a calculation of 1304w.

Not only that but when I tried to over clock the cpu, it appears I don't have enough power to make that happen.

As of right now I have a Rosewill 750w PSU.

i would not go as low as a 650w especially if you want to run Dual R9 290x, each will pull around 250w, then the i7 will pull close to 88w, so for those 3, you are looking at almost 588.  then throw in another 50w for KB/M, SSD, RAM, other things plugged in and you are up to 638w.

then throw in around 20% overhead so you are not maxing out the PSU when you are gaming and you are around 750w.

based on that i would recommend an 750w-800w PSU.  also make it at least 80+ bronze.

if you are wanting to overclock any spend the extra money and get a bigger power supply.

i just ran a PSU calculator and it came up that system would use a 646w.

Well in that case I should be good with this then?

It's also an 80+ Gold

This would be a better buy. You would probably only need an 850W, but the one below gives you plenty of headroom.
