LGA 2011 or not?

Go to solution Solved by Askew,

If price is not an issue then get X99.

Should I go for the new haswell e chips with x99? Or should I go for the previous gen 6 core.

Other than price is there another reason to not get ddr4? This is pretty much the only reason stopping me from buying.

Price is not a factor.

Doesn't x99 come out tomorrow?

I know, as in does it make sense to invest in x99 now because of ddr4?

Well, if you have the money... why not?

It isn't because I have the money, I get reimbursed for whatever I buy so in that sense price won't be a factor.

So if there isn't a drawback with ddr4 now except price, I might go for x99

Price is not a factor.

Go for X99.

While X79 is still a great architecture, it is now several years old and even the most expensive boards (e.g. Rampage IV Black Edition) are missing many of the current-gen's bells and whistles.  If you get reimbursed, go get a Rampage V Extreme, that will be a sexy, overpowered board (overkill for almost everything, but very sexy).

Wait for few months when their prices drop(don't expects drops from Intel).

Are you talking about DDR4 or X99 components?  X99 components might drop by a few dollars over the next few years, but I doubt it will be much more than that.

Few dollars? Impossible.

Few dollars? Impossible.

Have a look at what the premium X79 boards have done over the last couple of years.  The Rampage IV Extreme has gone down by about $20 (last I checked) since I bought mine 2 years ago.  Maybe it's cheaper with the release of X99, but I'm betting not by much.

There's no way they'd take such a huge profit hit by dropping the price only a short time after release.  This isn't the games industry and there's little-to-no profit margin as it stands, so manufacturers of these brand new, very high end components won't be foolish enough to succumb to the "I'll just wait for a week for the game to be half price" sales plan.

Oh I wouldn't be surprised if DDR4 went down in price shortly.  I seem to remember hearing about a predicted price surge with the release of X99 because of limited supply.  If that's the case, it should come down in the none-too-distant future.

I'm just talking about a lack of price drop in X99 components (being the motherboard and cpu).  Those things won't drop in price.
