iphone 4s battery issue

Guys when i put the charger in the phone when its on its Not charging.i need to shut down the phone then i put the charger its opens automatically(like all apple phones) and then i close it again..with chargerin phone..tge only way it is charging

It could be the battery itself, a replacement is pretty cheap:

Alternatively it could be a problem with the charging coil or the software that controls how the phone charges. In that case the problem may not be rectifiable.
