First time boot up

So today i finished my first pc build and i am having trouble getting into the BIOS menu. When i start the pc and the pc boots up i get to the startup screen i press f12 several of times but nothing happens. The keyboard is connected via usb it looks like the keyboard is working because it lights up but not sure if that proves anything. So i was wondering if anyone got any idea of what im doing wrong?
