does steam save game progress

ok so i have to do a reset soonish to install my ssd but im halfway through a bunch of games and i dont want to have to start over so does steam gave game progress (ie if i download the game after the reinstal will i have the same progress)

 

or will i have to find another solution to back up my games.

 

Off topic but if i were to unplug my hdd then install my os to the ssd then plug the hdd back in will i be able to transfer files

it will save progress, after my hard drive went correct, i install the games again and i still have my saved games.

I think it depends on the game. Some games yes, and some no.

You can enable save game backup

All of Valve's games have save game backup, you can watch it happening after you quit the game, it shows a percentage.

If it supports the steam cloud, it will. If not I believe the save data is in your documents folder

Almost every game saves your data to the Steam Cloud.  If there a specific games that you are worried about losing save data for then back them up, it won't use much storage space.

Yes it backs up to the Cloud.

I'm pretty sure it does but if you look at the product description on steam and it will say there.

It will save some games, other games will have saved progress in your documents folder.
