Hey guys, I was wondering if we have an Android sub-forum of some sorts. Particularly for rooting and so forth. I know Slick is a fan of Android and I am sure there are A LOT of Android fans here including myself. Some sort of smartphone sub-forum for WP8,iOS and Android would be great.

Cheers

Not a bad idea' date=' I suppose it could come under Operating Systems and Software at the moment....I would say it will become more specific as the community grows...A linux based section is definitely called for[/quote']

Not particilarily a Linux section but a forum for smartphones as I PM'd a moderator about it and he told admins about it but still nothing.

http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/community-portal/forum-news-info/5258-smartphone-forum please bump that thread and get attention rolling. Tweet Linus or something so we can get a smartphone forum. It makes no sense to have a tablet and mobile gaming forum but no smartphone forum????

I'm pretty sure it will happen. They will create sections that have a demand...I'm certain plenty would be interested in these subjects...The only reason I mentioned "linux based" is for things like steambox... so many developers are implementing it now for the mainstream...the future is linux. But yeah a separate smartphone section makes more sense..

The moderator, Dave responded back to me.

Hey, there are a few new forums being considered, obviously we have to discuss the changes with Linus as he has the final say, being his forum. And, as you can guess, it's been very hectic this past week with CES and the like, i will ask them later on tonight when they are on to see where we are with it. Sorry for the delay.

-Dave:)

is what I got. Let's hope for the best :)

Im not sure if we will see an android based forum, but one dedicated to smartphones is definitely on the agenda...Linus and Slick have both mentioned it

I would quite confidently say that no-one would come looking here for help with their android rooting issues.

xda-developers is miles ahead and has thousands of people ready to help with your exact issue. The likeliness that someone will know how to fix your specific problem for your specific phone here is very small.

Feel free to PM for any water-cooling questions. Check out my profile for more ways to contact me.

facedesk. Are you just trying to increase your post count or are you that narrow minded? With an android / android root sub-forum, the MANY users on this forum that enjoy rooting can share what roms they are using, themes, apps and their opinions about it. Users can be redirected to xda posts if no one on the forum has an answer. You are correct in saying that xda has more users but is that even an argument? overclock3d.net has more users and a sub-forum for cpus, motherboards, videocards, member reviews etc.. does that mean that this forum should not have these sections because they have more users that can help? Its about the LTT community helping each other out and expanding each others knowledge.

ghost is right....

i love android and i always go to xda-devs to get my fix. and i know a lot of people use that too.

so having a android modding sub-forum is pointless all it will do is bring low quality information to this site.

because all the good stuff is on XDA,

I love the fact that this forum brings us together as a community but I also don't think we need a million sub forums for every single thing. I can understand computer based ones such as build logs, but for phones there's xda developers and ios developers which are already heavily used. You would probably get directed to a url from them in which you can get better support for you device directly from your chef.

How about we add a sub forum like i.e Android Devices wherein we can merge all topics on android powered devices.

It includes whats the latest in the android OS. talk about smartphones running android and some random stuff about it.

I hope Slick adds this idea. :)

There's already a sub forum for mobile devices which I think should be enough, though I guess a sub in that for android specific would be okay but I personally don't see the point.
