I run Ccleaner regularly and it's a huge help when clearing out my registry, but I was wondering if any of Piriform's other computer utilities were worth checking out.

I am bracing myself for beratings because I have no idea what LTT forums think of their stuff and I am rather prone to liking things that other people like me think are stupid.

Recuvva is great to have installed just in case. It's an undelete program and can be pretty damn useful when you accidentally wipe the trash/delete a too large file

Ah, cheers, guys, I'll have a look. I was a little worried that people here might esteem them to be a dodgy/trashy/otherwise irreputable company or something (there are so many out there, you know?), but it looks like they're pretty good in everyone's books.

I run an SSD so I don't need a defragger. Aren't a lot of HDDs these days self-defragmenting anyway?

I'll check out Recuvva, that looks handy.

I was taught that doing this will decrease your disk's lifespan, is that true?

Not sure it would do that? All my data is stored on my server, so really its only writing the size of the windows installation, my games are installed on a seperate drive, I just tell steam where my games are installed so I dont have to re-install them

So really I am only writing like 30-60gb to my SSD

They said that SSDs hate being written on, and that magnetizing-demagnitizing the HDDs are bad. If it doesn't then, my whole life is a lie.

I ran CCleaner for many years because it's a great program and it's free. I now run WinASO Registry Optimizer which basically does all the same stuff better + other tweaking odds and ends. Highly recommended...especially since Piriform started making the free version difficult to install without crapware.

Whut?

SSDs can write have many hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data written to them before failure

some have even had many petabytes and they are still working

Ccleaner and recuva are my jam! Though, I agree with shadow captain, reinstalling windows is the best option (alittle pedantic with clean installs) I want to get myself a couple of good back up of a clean install, all my apps, all updated. I only got the clean install version and takes ages to install and set everything up :(

Sup
