Nexus 7 Charging Issues

Go to solution Solved by MoonSpot,

I would assume that the fault is with the female end of the mini usb which is on the device.  Mine doesn't charge without twisting the connection on 2 axis and keeping pressure on it.

Mini and micro usb as connectors and cables are just awful. More of these cables should have 90 degree male connectors, and the female ends need to be made of stronger material to prevent them from becoming loose and sloppy.  (Why am I thinking of kegel excercise now?)

:EDIT: you probably want some sort of solution, yes?

open up the nexus by lifting the back off. comes apart fairly easily, except around the power button and volume toggle. Then try squeezing the female mini usb housing into a tighter fit.

So I recently got a new keyboard case thanks to the help of these forums, but now my tablet has stopped charging.

  • I have ran all the typical troubleshooting for software reasons.
  • Did a factory reset.
  • It's the 2012 version of the Nexus 7
  • 4.4 Kit Kat
  • Indicates charging but mostly never charges when plugged in.
  • I bought a cheap power brick and it charged okay for a few days and stopped again. (I did try multiple outlets in my home also.)
  • Bought a factory replacement charger and it wouldn't charge with it.

I have this awful feeling I just wasted 45$ for a bad usb port, hopefully I can find some help here, thank you.

I was afraid that might be the issue, the tablet has pogo pins but nobody makes a charger that uses them. Asus had a official dock with pogo pins but they can go for as much as a new tablet itself now.
